Occupational Therapy Frameworks

The Person–Environment–Occupation (PEO) Model and the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) guide our approach, ensuring that support is truly holistic. These frameworks explore how an individual’s strengths, sensory and emotional needs, routines, and motivations interact with their physical and social environments. By understanding this dynamic relationship, we can identify barriers, build on existing capabilities, and create practical strategies that enhance meaningful engagement in everyday life at home, school, work, and in the community

Sensory Integration Theory

Developed by Dr. Jean Ayres, Sensory Integration together with contemporary sensory processing informed approaches are drawn on to understand unique sensory profiles, sensory procesing and nervous system regulation

Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics®

Developed by Bruce D. Perry, we support regulation through developmentally informed, sensory-based strategies. At Sense & Flourish, we work through a trauma-informed lens, and our relationship-based care is grounded in safety, connection, and trust

Polyvagal Theory

Developed by world-renowned researcher and Unyte’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory focuses on what is happening in the body and the nervous system, and explains how our sense of safety, danger or life-threat can impact our behaviour.
Understanding Polyvagal Theory gives us a scientific framework that can be applied through physiological, or “bottom-up” therapies, to help change and improve how we feel, think and connect with others

Neuro-affirming, Strengths-based Practice

Our work is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and respect for neurodiversity. We don't focus on 'fixing' or changing individuals. Instead, our support empowers individuals to understand their unique sensory profiles, build confidence and regulation skills, strengthen self-awareness, and ultimately, live in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable for them

Together, these approaches help individuals and families make sense of their experiences, strengthen regulation skills, and create routines and environments that genuinely work for them
